Project management foundations

Two-day training along the course of a project: from the brief through goals and structure to milestones and roles.

Many people steer projects alongside their specialist role without ever having learned how a project is set up. This training walks through the whole course of a project once, on an example of your own.

The second day opens with a tower build in small groups. What happens there supplies the material for the question of what project leadership actually does while everyone else is building.

Day 1: brief and goals

  1. What a project is: project against day-to-day business
  2. Initial analysis: reason, people involved, conditions
  3. Setting goals: goals you can check rather than headlines
  4. Project brief: the assignment on one page

Day 2: structure and steering

  1. Tower build: collaboration under time pressure, with review
  2. Work breakdown structure: cutting the initiative into packages
  3. Activity list: from package to task
  4. Phases and milestones: making the course plannable
  5. RACI: who does, who decides, who is consulted, who is informed
  6. The role of project leadership: from the review of the tower build

What you take away

  • A project brief for your own initiative
  • Goals that let you measure progress
  • A work breakdown structure and an activity list
  • Clarity about roles and decision paths in the project
  • A picture of what project leadership means day to day

A first conversation costs nothing. Afterwards you know whether consulting, a training or coaching fits your situation, and whether we fit each other.
